Wellness Screenings for Pets

Helping adult pets to live longer, happier and healthier lives

Pets age around seven times faster than humans and as they do, they become more susceptible to a variety of health conditions.

A wellness screening is a comprehensive medical MOT for your cat or dog that can detect health issues and help to give you peace of mind about your pet’s health and wellbeing.

Your pet will receive a detailed health check by one of our trained veterinary nurses and they can also give tailored lifestyle advice.

A wellness screening is as important to adult pets as other preventative healthcare measures such as vaccination. Detecting any changes early means that in many cases we can provide care straight away helping your pet to live a longer, healthier and happier life.

  • Wellness Screening is recommended in healthy adult cats and dogs to aid early detection of disease and help them to live happier and healthier lives.

  • Wellness Screening is suitable for healthy adult cats and dogs seen by a vet in the last 12 months – if your pet is showing any signs or symptoms of disease, or any abnormal behaviour you should have a check up with a vet first.

    Adult pets are:

    • Cats over 7 years old
    • Dogs over 5 years old
    • Giant breeds of dog (Great Dane, Mastiff, St. Bernard, etc.) over 3 years
  • A physical exam, a complete clinical history, urine testing, a blood pressure measurement and blood testing for all common organ function-related diseases including:

    • kidney disease
    • liver disease
    • diabetes
    • high blood pressure
    • overactive thyroid (cats only)
  • We recommend having a wellness screening annually.

    • It is ideal if pets are fasted for 12 hours before their appointment (no food but allowed access to water).

    • A fresh urine sample should be brought to the appointment in a clean, dry container. For advice on collecting urine samples, please contact your practice.

    • If you are unable to undertake either of the points above, please attend your appointment and the team will advise you further.

    • The person bringing your pet to the appointment should be familiar with their health status, habits, and routines.

You will receive your results within 10 days of the screening. If all is well, you will receive a text or email from your practice team. If there are any abnormal results, the practice team will be in touch to arrange for a vet to discuss the next steps. This may include a recommendation for a change of diet, medication or further investigations.

  • Your appointment will last around 25-30 minutes but this could vary depending on the individual patient.

  • Our wellness screening costs £85 but Pet Health Club members receive a 25% discount!
